(RV) Warriors Keep Rolling Over Broncos for 7th Straight Win
HASTINGS, Neb. - Midland University traveled to Hastings College facing off against another Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) foe on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors ran through the Broncos in a 7-0 victory pushing their GPAC win streak to 17 (since 2021). Midland takes another improving step to put their overall record at 13-7 and 4-0 in the conference. Hastings drops to a 1-12 overall record and stays winless at 0-5 in the GPAC.
No. 2s Luca Struffi and Tycho Janssen blanked Agustin Lopez and Evan Franke 6-0, while No.3s Nunzio Thiel and Ryosei Masuda followed suit over Ethan Mins and Ryan Hunter winning 6-0 clinching the doubles point. No. 1s Joren Stevens and Benjamin Starman continued to win as teammates over Nick Smeltzer and Thane Waite with a 6-1 set win.
Masuda lost in his first set 1-6 but bounced back winning 6-0, 6-3 in the final two sets over Smeltzer, giving him another win at the No. 1 slot. Starman at No. 2 gave the Warriors another victory over Hunter 6-1, 6-1 as Thiel stayed solid at No. 3 defeating Waite 6-0, 6-1 sealing the needed fourth point.
No. 4 Nathen Bitzer won in straight sets over Franke 6-1, 6-4 with Janssen at No. 5 facing Mins and taking him 6-2, 6-1 in the matchup. No. 6 Arthur Hernandes blanked Lopez 6-0, 6-0 in the final match of the day.
Midland (13-7) will come back to Fremont High School and face Dubuque (2-13) on Friday, April 21. The Warriors and Spartans will dual at 10:00 a.m. before Midland returns to its final two conference games.
