(RV) Warriors Dismantle Red Raiders in Orange City
ORANGE CITY, Iowa. – Midland University faced off against conference opponent Northwestern College on Friday at the NWC Tennis Courts. The Warriors ran through the rainy weather and the Red Raiders 7-0, collecting another conference win along the way. Midland stays unbeaten at 2-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) while running its overall mark to 11-7. Northwestern goes to 2-2 in the conference and has a 9-7 overall record.
After a brief rain delay, the Warriors stepped on the courts starting with No. 1s Joren Stevens and Ben Starman taking their doubles set over David Bomgaars and Leandro Costa 6-3. No. 2s Nathan Bitzer and Tycho Janssen followed with a win beating Brian VandenBerg and Arthur Vincente (6-1) and clinching the doubles point. Nunzio Thiel and Ryosei Masuda at No. 3s landed the sweep defeating Collin Harmelink and Jack Roisum 6-1 ending doubles play.
No. 5 Janssen won his singles match with the quickest win over the Raiders' Roisum 6-1, 6-2 as No. 4 Bitzer continued the run defeating Vincente 6-3, 6-2 against his opponent. Theil at No. 3 took the fourth straight point over Costa 6-4, 6-4 sealing the team win for the road Warriors.
Starman at No. 2 won in straight sets over Bomgaars (6-2, 7-5) and No. 1 Masuda claimed his win over VandenBerg 7-5, 7-6(7-4) keeping the home team scoreless. No. 6 Arthur Hernandes had a three-set comeback battle to defeat Harmelink 3-6, 6-1, 10-3 to dominate conference foe NWC.
Midland (11-7, 2-0 GPAC) will travel back home for a quick turnaround versus Concordia (10-7, 2-2 GPAC) at the Fremont YMCA on Saturday, April 15. First toss will be at 12:00 p.m. with the Warrior women and men facing off against the Bulldogs.
