(RV) Warriors Win Third Straight Versus Grand View on Senior Day

FREMONT, Neb. – For the first time this season, (RV) Midland University took to the outdoor courts as it hosted Grand View University on a windy day at the Fremont High School Tennis Complex. The Warriors kept their momentum going with a 6-1 win over the Vikings, growing their win streak to three since March 31. Midland finds itself with a 10-7 overall record as Grand View drops to 1-6 on its 2023 campaign.

No. 2s Luca Stuffi and Tycho Janssen defeated Abbot Haner and Enzo Naveda 6-1 in their doubles set while Nunzio Thiel and Benjamin Starman at No. 1s defeated Igor Theodorakopoulos and Dylan Ramsay 6-3 taking the sweep in doubles. The No. 3s slot was conceded by default to the Warriors. 

Nathen Bitzer at No. 5 won the first singles match over Zach Wallace (6-0, 6-3) and showed his prowess on the court fighting against the wind. No. 3 Thiel won with a 3-0 final score in the first set as Naveda was injured during the match. 

Starman at No. 2 seized the victory over Ramsay (6-4, 6-2) taking the fifth point for the Warriors after the Vikings defaulted in No. 6 singles. Struffi at No. 4 won over Haner 6-3, 6-0 giving him his ninth win of the season on Senior Day. No. 1 Ryosei Masuda fell to Theodorakopoulos 4-6, 4-6 in a competitive match. 

Head coach Bruno Campos had this to say about his team's play against the Vikings. "Great day for Midland tennis. The kids came out ready to play under windy conditions and we were able to win 6-1 on both sides. Time to get ready for our next battle against Northwestern."

Midland (10-7, 1-0 GPAC) will have a week off before traveling to face Northwestern (9-6, 2-1 GPAC) on Friday, April 14. The match is set for 4:00 p.m. in Orange City, Iowa against the Red Raiders.
