Warriors Lose in Battle Versus Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Midland University traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to play Augustana University at GREATLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club on Friday evening. The Warriors lost 3-4 against the Vikings in their final match before entering conference play next week. Midland drops to .500 on the season at 7-7 overall while Augustana improves to 6-8 for the season.

In doubles play, No. 2s Luca Struffi and Tycho Janssen won over Meg Siritaworachan and Joseph Plachy 6-4. No. 3s Ryosei Masuda and Arthur Hernandes took Clayton Poppenga and Tyson Cowger to seal the doubles point win in favor of MU.

Janssen at No. 6 singles won in straight sets defeating Poppenga 6-2, 7-6 in the final match to take the courts. No. 3 Struffi won in a three-set match over Siritaworachan eventually taking the victory 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Midland (7-7) will begin Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play against Mount Marty (1-4) next week on Friday, March 31. The teams will spin their rackets at 3:00 p.m. at the Fremont High School Tennis Courts. The Warriors will begin their defense of the GPAC Championships they won a year ago. They are undefeated against the Lancers, dropping only one point since 2017 against their opponents.
