Bio
Josh Nakayama was named Midland University's men's soccer head coach ahead of the 2021 season.
Before Midland, Nakayama was an assistant coach at Bethel University in Mishawaka, Indiana, from 2018 to 2021. While there, he helped guide the Pilots to two runner-up finishes in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament in 2018 and 2020 and brought the Pilots back to the NAIA national tournament for the first time in ten years in 2020.
Before his time at Bethel, Nakayama spent five seasons as the head coach at Penn High School in Mishawaka, earning a 58-17-4 record during his tenure that included the school's first unbeaten regular season in 2017 and a Northern Indiana Conference coach of the year award. Additionally, Nakayama has nearly a decade of experience coaching at the club level and worked as an assistant coach for the South Bend Lions in the United Soccer League (2019-2021).
In college, Josh was a student athlete, playing goalkeeper for the Bethel College soccer team before graduating in 2012 with a bachelor's in Physical Education & Health for all grades.
A native of Hilo, Hawaii, Coach Nakayama and his wife, Emily, now live in Wahoo, Nebraska, with their daughter and two sons.
