Warriors Sweep GPAC Weekly Awards

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) has announced its men's soccer players of the week for contests played September 2-8, 2024. Midland University swept the awards this week with Hugo Garcia-Rosado Duran earning GPAC Offensive Player of the Week honors while Hugo Sjoeberg collected GPAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Garcia, a junior from Barcelona, Spain, had a goal and two assists as Midland defeated York on the road. In the Warriors' game against No. 9 Missouri Valley, he pressed the Vikings' defense in the first half with four shots. He left the game near the intermission and was unable to return as Midland earned a 0-0 draw against the top-10 foe at home.

Sjoeberg, a sophomore from Kiel, Germany, allowed one goal in 180 minutes of action this week. In the Warriors' 0-0 draw with No. 9-ranked Missouri Valley, Sjoeberg orchestrated a stout Midland defense that stymied the Vikings in the first half. For the game, he collected 8 saves in the Warriors' biggest result of the season thus far.

Midland (2-2-2) will be in action on Wednesday this week. The Warriors will meet up with No. 4-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan for a neutral site contest on September 11 in Overland Park, Kansas.
