SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Midland University traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Briar Cliff University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) match on a Wednesday afternoon. After a hard-fought battle on the freshly installed turf at Faber Field, the Warriors fell 1-0 to the Chargers.
The teams went toe-to-toe on the pitch in the first half with solid defensive strategies. Briar Cliff put up a half-dozen shot in the first period with three on the frame while holding Midland in check. The teams went into the break scoreless though, 0-0.
After the intermission, the Chargers broke through and scored what would turn out to be the game's only goal in the 61st minute. Their stout defense kept the Warriors' attack quiet again, allowing just one shot attempt.
Marco Moresco played the full 90 minutes in goal, picking up three saves on the day.
"Although we didn't get the result we hoped for today, I am proud of how the team played on the road as they held the number one team to only four shots on frame," commented head coach Josh Nakayama.
Midland (3-8-5, 1-4-5 GPAC) will return to home turf for Senior Night against Mount Marty (2-8-4, 1-6-2 GPAC) this weekend. The conference clash is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. at Heedum Field on Saturday, October 28. Heading into the final regular season game, the Warriors and Lancers are tied for ninth in the conference standings along with Doane and are just one point behind Jamestown, who will host Briar Cliff on Saturday.
