Second Quarter Surge Lifts No. 9 Benedictine Past Midland

ATCHISON, Kan. – Midland University traveled to Atchison, Kansas, on Tuesday for its final game of the season, facing No. 9 Benedictine College. The Warriors kept it close early, but the Ravens pulled away in the second quarter on their way to a 22-1 victory.

Benedictine wasted little time getting on the board, striking at the 11:50 mark as Jonah Salem finished an assist from Joey Calabria. Calabria added a goal of his own just over a minute later, and Keegan Lindsay extended the lead to 3-0 midway through the quarter. Midland broke through late in the period when Gavin Bartling scored unassisted with 41 seconds remaining, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into the second.

The Ravens took full control in the second, erupting for nine goals in the period. Calabria led the charge with multiple scores, including goals assisted by Camden Chambers, Trent Harder, and Jacob Meyer. Harder, Mason Eberle, and Salem also found the net during the run, while Ian Madden contributed several assists. Benedictine outshot Midland 22-1 in the quarter to build a commanding 12-1 halftime advantage.

Benedictine continued to roll in the third, adding three more goals. Salem opened the scoring with another finish off a Madden assist, while Harder added his second of the game. Meyer capped the quarter with an unassisted goal in the final seconds, pushing the lead to 15-1.

The Ravens closed out the game with seven goals in the final period. Eberle, Herbertz, and Salem each added to their tallies, while Madden and Lloyd Warren also got on the scoresheet. Benedictine's balanced attack and constant pressure sealed the 22-1 final.

Midland's lone goal came from Bartling late in the first quarter. Benedictine outshot the Warriors 63-9, held a 48-10 advantage in ground balls, and won 21 of 27 faceoffs. Sean Erickson played the full game in goal for Midland, recording 14 saves while facing 36 shots on goal.

Midland concludes its season with an overall record of 4-9 and a 2-7 mark in conference play.
