Warriors Drop Senior Day Matchup to St. Ambrose

FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, honoring Efren Banderas, Asher Thomas, Colton Wunderlich, and Ryan Witte prior to its matchup with St. Ambrose. The Warriors faced a tough test in their final home game of the season, falling to the Bees, 18-2, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference contest.

St. Ambrose set the tone early and never let up, scoring seven unanswered goals in the opening quarter. Zach Priami led the charge with a hat trick, finding the net at 10:19, 8:30, and 2:39. Zak Brown added a goal at 6:48 before Cameron Washington scored at 6:13 off a Priami assist. Jagger Shaddix (1:54) and Ethan Nydegger (0:14) closed the scoring to give the Bees a 7-0 lead.

The Bees continued their offensive surge in the second quarter, opening with goals from Washington (13:37) and a man-up strike by Shaddix at 12:32. Deegan Reece (9:59) and Brown (5:52) pushed the margin to 11-0 before Midland broke through. Cameron Teem put the Warriors on the board at 4:19 off an assist from Leland Thiel. St. Ambrose responded with goals from Nydegger (3:03) and Ryan Swanson (1:22) to take a 13-1 lead into halftime.

St. Ambrose added four more goals in the third quarter, beginning with Ayden Fraelle at 13:26 off a Priami assist. Washington (7:43) and Brown (5:17) followed before Priami capped the quarter with his fourth goal at 3:22, extending the lead to 17-1.

Midland added its final goal in the fourth quarter as Kellan Powers scored with 3:50 remaining, assisted by Gavin Bartling. St. Ambrose closed out the scoring at the 1:30 mark, with Shaddix finishing a feed from Priami to secure the 18-2 victory.

St. Ambrose outshot Midland 67-17 and held a 29-21 advantage in ground balls while winning 15 of 24 faceoffs. Sean Erickson played the full game in goal for Midland, recording 12 saves while facing 30 shots on goal.

Midland (4-8, 2-6 HAAC) will wrap up the regular season April 18 when it travels to Atchison, Kansas, to face ninth-ranked Benedictine (10-1, 7-1 HAAC). Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Legacy Field.
