William Woods Surges Past Warriors

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University continued Heart of America Athletic Conference play Wednesday, welcoming William Woods to Fremont. The Owls seized momentum early and never let up, pulling away for a 15-3 victory as the Warriors struggled to keep pace.

William Woods wasted little time getting on the board, striking just 29 seconds into the game as Collis Rhodes found the net to make it 1-0. Rhodes doubled the lead with a man-up goal midway through the quarter before Connor White and Ethan NewMyer each scored late, giving the Owls a 4-0 advantage after one.

The Owls continued to control the pace in the second, opening the frame with back-to-back goals from Drew Longmeyer and Rhodes just a minute apart. William Woods added scores from Xavier Dockery and NewMyer later in the quarter to extend the lead to 8-0 at halftime.

William Woods kept its foot on the gas coming out of the break, adding four more goals in the third behind tallies from Jack Brackin, White, NewMyer, and Emmet Mathis. Midland broke through late in the quarter when Cameron Teem scored off an assist from Ryan Witte with 1:45 remaining, cutting the deficit to 12-1.

The Owls added another early goal in the fourth before Midland showed some life offensively. Memphis Dyess converted a man-up opportunity off a pass from Teem with 11:11 remaining, and Kellan Powers followed with a goal assisted by Witte to trim the deficit with 5:46 left. William Woods closed the game with two late goals from White and Jerry Swenson to seal the 15-3 win.

William Woods outshot Midland 62-29 and held a 40-23 edge in ground balls while winning 13 of 22 faceoffs. Sean Erickson played the entire game in net for Midland after exiting the previous game against Missouri Baptist with an injury. He recorded 19 saves while facing 34 shots on goal. Teem, Dyess, and Powers each scored once for the Warriors.

Midland (4-7, 2-5 HAAC) will look to bounce back Saturday, April 18, when it hosts St. Ambrose (5-4, 4-2 HAAC). Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. at Heedum Field with Senior Day festivities before the game.
