Fast Start Propels William Woods to Win over Warriors
FULTON, Mo. – Midland University traveled to Fulton, Missouri, on Wednesday evening to take on William Woods University in a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) matchup. An early offensive surge by the Owls set the tone, handing the Warriors a tough 20-2 loss.
William Woods came out strong, netting five unanswered goals in the first period to jump out to a 5-0 lead and establish early momentum.
The Owls continued to build on their lead in the second period, scoring two more goals to take a 7-0 advantage into halftime.
After the break, William Woods picked up right where it left off, opening the third period with seven straight goals to extend the lead to 14-0. Joshua McClure put the Warriors on the board with a goal in the final seconds of the quarter, ending Midland's scoring drought.
The Owls remained relentless in the fourth, opening the period with three more goals. Midland responded with a goal at the 5:25 mark, courtesy of Efren Banderas. William Woods closed out the game with three additional goals, sealing the 20-2 victory.
Sean Erickson stood tall in goal for Midland, recording 16 saves. William Woods outshot the Warriors 58-15.
Midland (2-9, 2-5 HAAC) will travel to Davenport, Iowa, to take on St. Ambrose (6-6, 6-1) in a conference game on Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m.
