Warriors Unable to Contain Clarke’s Second-Half Rally
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Midland traveled to Dubuque, Iowa, to face Clarke University on Saturday afternoon. Despite a strong start, the Warriors fell short as Clarke's offense surged in the second half, resulting in a 12-5 loss.
Carson Meier opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 1:40 mark of the first quarter, giving Midland an early 1-0 lead. Clarke responded with back-to-back goals in the final seconds of the quarter, scoring at the :46 and :05 marks to take a 2-1 advantage.
Midland answered in the second quarter as Cameron Teem netted an unassisted goal at 13:03. Shortly after, Meier struck again with another unassisted goal at 11:49, reclaiming the lead for the Warriors at 3-2. Clarke battled back, tying the game at 3-3 with a goal at the 7:12 mark, sending both teams into halftime deadlocked.
After the intermission, Clarke's offense ignited, scoring four consecutive goals in the third quarter.
Midland broke its scoring drought in the fourth, capitalizing on a power play at the 13:45 mark when Brian Cole found the net off an assist from Teem. Clarke extended its lead with three unanswered goals, pushing the score to 10-4. Asher Thomas added an unassisted goal at the 3:45 mark, but Clarke closed out the game with two more goals to secure the 12-5 victory.
Sean Erickson started in goal for the Warriors, recording seven saves.
Midland (0-6, 0-2 HAAC) will host William Penn (3-3, 2-0 HAAC) in a conference matchup on Wednesday, March 26. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Heedum Field.
