Warriors Battle to Fourth-Place Finish in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – Midland University returned to the golf course earlier this week, competing in the Crestview Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Wichita, Kansas. The Warriors started strong in the opening round but struggled in the second before rebounding with a solid final round to finish fourth out of 13 teams.

Both Ben Ngelingkong and Janlo Zaayman had impressive first rounds, each recording five birdies. Ngelingkong shot a 2-under-par 70, while Zaayman finished at 1-under 71. Ngelingkong followed with a 9-over 81 in the second round before closing with a 4-over 76 in the final round, finishing at 11-over 227 for the tournament and placing 17th individually out of 77 golfers.

Zaayman built on his strong start with a second-round 4-over 76, putting him at 3-over after Monday's play. He capped off his tournament with a 10-over 82 on Tuesday, which included an eagle on hole 18, finishing at 13-over 229 and placing 22nd.

Billy Lyons was Midland's next-best finisher, opening with a 6-over 78, followed by a 10-over 82. He then delivered a stellar final round, shooting an even-par 72, highlighted by an eagle on hole 18. His total score of 16-over 232 secured a 29th-place finish.

Another Warrior who saved his best for last was Jacob Hellman. After rounds of 8-over 80 and 10-over 82, he finished strong with a 1-over 73, which included two birdies. His final score of 19-over 235 placed him 34th.

Rounding out Midland's team total was Cole Wilson, who finished at 26-over 242 in 47th place. Brady Davis and Spencer Wishon also competed individually, with Davis carding a 24-over 240 to finish 42nd and Wishon shooting 45-over 261 for 69th place.

The Warriors will return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Verhille Invitational in Camdenton, Missouri.
