After Solid Start, Warriors Place Sixth at GPAC Championship
BEATRICE, Neb. – Midland University faced fluctuating fortunes at the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament this week. Ethan Blair led the Warriors with a stellar opening round, shooting a 71 (-1) and propelling Midland to a tie for first place after the initial 18 holes, matching a team score of 296 by Doane University.
However, the second round saw a reversal of fortunes as the Warriors' scores climbed, relegating them to fifth place by the end of the first day of play.
The final day witnessed a valiant effort from the team as they battled the course over the last 18 holes. Midland posted a respectable round of 317, concluding the tournament with a cumulative score of 920 (+56). Northwestern College, who entered the final day in 3rd, put together a solid charge to clinch the team title and secure the GPAC's bid to the NAIA Championship with a total score of 900 (+36).
Individually, Ethan Blair led the Warriors, finishing tied for 13th with a score of 228 (+12). Cole Wilson followed closely behind, securing 17th place overall with a score of 230 (+14). The rest of the Warriors' lineup comprised Billy Lyons (234, T24), Jaylin Jakub (235, T28), and Ben Ngelingkong (242, 45).
