Midland to Host Northwestern in Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Pink Out Game

FREMONT, Neb. — Midland University will host Northwestern College on Saturday, January 24, for its annual Coaches vs. Cancer Pink Out game.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Over the last three years, Midland's men's basketball program has been committed to educating the community and raising awareness in the fight against cancer.

"This year hits even closer to home for our program," head coach Tyler Erwin said. "Two members of our Midland family, Davy York ('82) and Mike Selk ('97), have been affected by cancer. They are currently on the road to recovery and doing well, but they remain constantly in our thoughts and prayers."

"Cancer has impacted all of us in some way, shape, or form, and we thank you for your support as we raise awareness, make a difference, and continue this fight together," Erwin added.

Before the game, fans will have the opportunity to fill out a "Today, I Honor…" sign to take part in a special recognition moment held at the beginning of the game. The moment will honor those currently battling cancer, cancer survivors, and all individuals who have been impacted.

Health care workers will also be honored and recognized during the game.

Additionally, a "Chuck-A-Duck" halftime contest will take place during the women's and men's games, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. The winner will receive a gift basket filled with Midland basketball gear. Throughout the doubleheader, a 50/50 raffle will also be held, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support as Midland stands together in the fight against cancer.

The women's game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3:45 p.m., inside the Wikert Event Center.
