(RV) Warriors Wrap Up Homestand With Third Straight Victory
FREMONT, Neb. – (RV) Midland University was back on the turf at Heedum Field on Saturday, hosting (RV) William Woods University in the final game of its four-game homestand. The Warriors defeated the Owls, 32-12, in KCAC action. With the victory, the Warriors extended their winning streak to three.
Midland scored first when Lotta Wulff completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Allaya Livingston. After a failed conversion attempt, the Warriors led 6-0 with 2:48 remaining in the opening quarter.
After forcing a punt, Midland struck again in the closing minute of the period as Wulff connected with Livingston on a 33-yard touchdown pass. The conversion was unsuccessful, giving the Warriors a 12-0 advantage with 17 seconds left in the quarter.
The Warriors added two more scores in the second quarter to take a 26-0 lead into halftime.
Midland extended its lead early in the third quarter when Wulff threw another touchdown pass to Livingston, this time from 11 yards out. Following another failed conversion, the Warriors led 32-0 with 10:38 remaining in the period.
William Woods got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter courtesy of its defense. A Karina Alfaro pass was intercepted by A'Jah Smith and returned 15 yards for a touchdown. The conversion attempt failed, leaving Midland ahead 32-6 with 10:35 to play.
The Owls capped the scoring when Jazzy Dunaway rushed for a 1-yard touchdown. The conversion was unsuccessful, making the score 32-12 with 1:01 remaining, which proved to be the final margin.
Midland ran 39 plays for 206 yards. The Warriors completed 17 of 31 passes for 194 yards and rushed eight times for 12 yards. William Woods ran 57 plays for 109 total yards, completing 19 of 33 passes for 87 yards and rushing 24 times for 22 yards.
Individually for Midland, Wulff completed 14 of 22 passes for 186 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Emma Rodriguez carried once for 10 yards. In the receiving game, Holiness Hodges had six catches for 87 yards, while Livingston recorded seven receptions for 74 yards and four touchdowns.
For the Owls, Shamya Williams completed 19 of 33 passes for 87 yards with one interception. Addie Chilek had one carry for 31 yards, while Dunaway finished with three carries for nine yards and a touchdown. Dunaway also led William Woods in receiving with five catches for 25 yards.
Defensively, Midland was led by NaTaija Blaylock with 12 tackles. Olivia Dominguez-Millsop added an interception.
For William Woods, Chilek recorded seven tackles. Olivia Menard had five tackles and one interception, while A'Jah Smith and Sam Menard also intercepted passes.
Midland (4-2, 4-1 KCAC) returns to action Wednesday, March 18, when it travels to Leavenworth, Kansas, to face Saint Mary (0-3, 0-3 KCAC). Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.
