Warriors Dominate St. Mary; Sweep Season Series
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Midland University dominated the University of St. Mary in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) matchup Wednesday, securing a 40-12 victory at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.
Midland wasted no time on the offensive side of the ball, scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions. Angel Ioane Kaio connected with Allaya Livingston for a 35-yard touchdown, followed by a 39-yard score to Olivia Dominguez-Millsop, putting Midland up 14-0 in the opening quarter.
St. Mary responded with an 11-yard touchdown but failed to convert the two-point conversion. They later added two points with a safety, closing the gap to 14-8 early in the second quarter.
The Spires tied the game at 14-14 with a 16-yard touchdown, but Midland swiftly regained the lead with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Ioane Kaio to Alyssa Butler, ending the half 20-14.
Midland's defense held strong in the second half, denying St. Mary any scoring opportunities. Offensively, the Warriors continued to dominate, scoring on all three of their drives. Ioane Kaio threw two more touchdowns to Butler and one to Kobie Jay, sealing the victory at 40-14.
Ioane Kaio finished with an impressive 331 passing yards and 6 touchdowns, with Butler leading receivers with 152 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Defensively, Cyndee Redd led with 8 tackles, supported by Eleseana Patterson's interception. Livingston and Butler contributed both defensively and offensively, each recording multiple tackles and receiving touchdowns.
Midland (8-2, 8-2 KCAC) will face Ottawa (8-0, 8-0 KCAC) on home turf this weekend at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska, in a highly anticipated rematch. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
