Warriors Secure Road Win at Cottey

NEVADA, Mo. – Midland University picked up its second win on the field over the weekend as they traveled to and defeated Cottey College on Saturday. The Warriors scored a pair of first-half touchdowns and held on for the 12-6 win over the Comets.

Midland wasted no time making their mark on the scoreboard, with Angel Ioane Kaio connecting with Olivia Dominguez-Millsop on a 5-yard touchdown pass in the opening quarter. Unfortunately, the extra-point attempt was unsuccessful. Midland extended their lead in the second quarter when Ioane Kaio found Jocelyn Lopez for a 1-yard touchdown toss, bringing the score to 12-0. Cottey managed to respond just before halftime, as Shamese Lee caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Amya Carulla.

The second half witnessed a defensive showcase, with both teams successfully holding their opponents scoreless.

Ioane Kaio led the offense, going 15-33 in passing for 181 yards, including 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Ioane Kaio also contributed on the ground, rushing 11 times for 21 yards. Jocelyn Lopez carried the ball 4 times for 14 yards.

Through the air, Allaya Livingston led the receiving corps with 5 receptions for 64 yards. Dominguez-Millsop hauled in 3 passes for 58 yards and a crucial touchdown.

Defensively, Cydnee Redd's standout performance included 8 tackles and 3 sacks. Mikaela Nunez led the team with 12 tackles, showcasing her skill on both sides of the ball. Eleseana Patterson had a solid defensive game with 3 tackles and a key interception, while Nunez also added an interception to her defensive contributions as well.

Midland (3-2, 3-2 KCAC) will look to extend its winning streak next weekend when they host Southwestern on Saturday, and Baker on Sunday. Game times on both days are set for 1:00 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska.
