Midland University Dance Wins Regional Competition
Oskaloosa, Iowa - Midland University's dance team finished first in the small college dance division at Saturday's NAIA Midwest Competitive Dance Regional Competition. With the win, Midland earned a Silver Bid to the NDA National Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.
"I am so unbelievably proud of the girls. Despite the nerves that were circulating, the girls took the floor and had their best performance yet," said Trish Ryan, Midland University dance head coach. "There were a few setbacks on the road to get here, but the dancers rose to the challenge and overcame their injuries and insecurities only to perform with heart. The word that the girls focused on today was ‘family'. The journey is not yet over for us, so I can't wait to start working on the next chapter, which will hopefully lead us to a National Championship Title in dance for Midland University."
Midland defeated Concordia University and William Penn University in the eight team, regional event. Each team was asked to construct a performance incorporating 30 seconds of jazz, hip hop, and pom styles into their routines.
Warrior Wildfire Dancer Brittany Torres, a junior from Plattesmouth, Neb., represented the team in the All American Dance Audition.
The Warrior Wildfire Dancers will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to compete in the NAIA National Dance Association Competition on April 11-14.
