Warriors Drop Doubleheader at No. 16 Doane

CRETE, Neb. — Midland University traveled to Crete, Nebraska, to face No. 16-ranked Doane University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader on a Sunday afternoon. The Warriors fell 8-0 in Game 1 and dropped Game 2, 4-3, after Doane walked it off.

GAME ONE: Doane 8, Midland 0

Doane took an early lead with a three-run home run in the first inning. A double in the third added another run, and another home run in the fourth made it a 5-0 game. A single, double and error in the sixth capped the game's scoring to make it 8-0.

The Warriors recorded seven hits but left all seven runners on base as they fell 8-0 in Game 1.

GAME TWO: Doane 4, Midland 3

After three scoreless innings from both teams, Midland got on the board in the top of the fourth. Boyle was hit by a pitch, and a single by Jimmy Martinez followed by a throwing error put runners on the corners. Owen Glover singled to bring Boyle home. Dax Wandler reached on a fielder's choice, and another throwing error advanced Glover and Wandler. Aidan Smith then doubled to score Glover and Wandler and make it a 3-0 game.

Doane got on the board in the sixth with a single, a walk and error to make it 3-1.

The Tigers cut into the lead again in the seventh with a single, an error and another single to make it 3-2.

Doane led off the ninth with a single. With two outs, the runner stole second before another Tiger singled through the left side to bring the runner home for the 4-3 walk-off win.

Midland (12-27, 7-13 GPAC) will travel to Brookings, South Dakota, to face South Dakota State to wrap up nonconference action Tuesday, April 14. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
