Midland Falls in GPAC Road DoubleHeader at Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. — Midland traveled to Seward, Nebraska, to face Concordia University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday evening. The Warriors fell 7-0 in Game 1 and 11-5 in Game 2 on the road.

GAME ONE: Concordia 7, Midland 0

Concordia got on the board first in the second inning, scoring three runs off two hits and an error. The Bulldogs increased their lead in the bottom of the third with a double to add two more runs and make it 5-0.

Concordia added the final runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a home run and two singles to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Bulldogs kept the Warriors off the board, handing Midland a 7-0 shutout loss.

GAME TWO: Concordia 11, Midland 5

Anthony Martinez led off with a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Brody Boyle drew a walk, and on a passed ball both Martinez and Boyle advanced. Jimmy Martinez singled through the right side to bring home Boyle and Martinez and give the Warriors an early 2-0 lead.

Concordia answered in the bottom of the first with back-to-back walks and a throwing error to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Bulldogs created separation in the second inning with two consecutive singles followed by a three-run home run to take a 5-2 lead.

Dax Wandler recorded a one-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Aidan Smith followed with a single up the middle to bring home Wandler. Adam Muniz Jr. then crushed a two-run home run to tie the game at 5-5.

Concordia regained the lead in the bottom of the third with two singles to make it 6-5.

The Bulldogs broke through again in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs on three hits to extend the lead to 10-5. Concordia added the final run of the game with a triple to center field to make it 11-5.

Midland was unable to mount a comeback as they dropped Game 2, 11-5.

Midland (12-25, 7-11 GPAC) will have a day of rest before traveling to Crete, Nebraska, to face No. 16 Doane University (28-7, 13-3 GPAC) in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 12. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
