No. 2 Warriors Roll Past Colorado State in Home Ice Return
FREMONT, Neb. – Back on home ice for the first time since December, No. 2-ranked Midland University hosted Colorado State University for a one-game series between former conference foes. It marked the first meeting between the programs since 2021, and like the last matchup, it was a one-sided affair as the Warriors skated to a 10-2 victory inside Sidner Ice Arena.
Playing a lone game on the weekend, Midland packed a weekend's worth of scoring into one night. The Warriors struck four times in the opening period, added three goals in both the second and third, and limited the Rams to one goal in each of the final two frames to avoid the shutout.
Ashlyn Kuffler led the early charge, scoring twice in the first period. She opened the scoring at the 1:07 mark off an assist from Makenna Larson, then struck again at 11:07 with help from Jordan Bell and Sabrina Durham.
Taylor Bell followed with a pair of goals in the opening frame. Her first came at the 15:00 mark off a feed from her sister, Jordan Bell, before she capped the period with another tally with 2:40 remaining, assisted by Kuffler and Larson.
Midland needed just 29 seconds into the second period to extend its lead on the power play. Larson scored the first of her two goals, with assists from Katie McNair and Taylor Bell. Colorado State answered two minutes later to break up the shutout bid.
Before the final intermission, Jaden Greenlee found the net off an assist from Callie Maguire, and Taylor Bell picked up her fourth point of the game by assisting on a goal from Molly McMurrich.
The Warriors continued the offensive surge early in the third period. Just over three minutes in, Camryn Falloon scored with assists from Ava Matthews-McCulley and Maguire. A little more than a minute later, Midland struck again on the power play as Larson netted her second goal of the night, assisted by Maguire and Taylor Bell, who finished the game with five points.
After another goal from the Rams, Jadis Howden closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 16:06 mark to seal the 10-2 final.
Brynn Knaus earned the win in goal for Midland, making eight saves as the Warriors dominated the shot count, 55-10.
Midland (23-4-3) closes the regular season next weekend, Feb. 13-14, with a two-game series against No. 11 Jamestown (6-14-1). Friday's 5 p.m. contest will serve as Alumni Night, while Saturday's 4 p.m. matchup will be Senior Day at Sidner Ice Arena.
