Warriors Complete Weekend Sweep, Remain Unbeaten

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Midland University capped off the final leg of its road trip with a two-game series at the Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday and Sunday. The Warriors of Midland posted a pair of shutouts over the Warriors of Indiana Tech, winning 3-0 in the opener and 7-0 in the finale. The victories move Midland to 13-0 as it nears the midway point of the regular season.

SATURDAY: Midland 3, Indiana Tech 0

After a scoreless opening period inside the PSM Icehouse, Midland broke through late in the second as Jordan Bell found the back of the net. Ashlyn Kuffler and Jaicee Huberdeau assisted on the goal at the 16:36 mark, giving MU the lead heading into the final break.

In the third, Callie Maguire lit the lamp in the opening minutes off a feed from Victoria Campbell, giving Midland an insurance goal. With time winding down in the final minute, Campbell added another goal for good measure, going bar down off a setup from Maguire and Kiara McGregor to seal the 3-0 win.

Brynn Knaus earned the shutout victory in goal for the Warriors, collecting seven saves. Midland dominated the shots-on-goal tally, 48-7.

SUNDAY: Midland 7, Indiana Tech 0

In the series finale, it was nearly a scoreless first period again before Maguire found the back of the net on a rebound with 15 seconds left in the frame. The goal, assisted by Campbell, opened the floodgates as Midland added three goals in each of the next two periods.

McGregor got things going midway through the second, scoring at the 9:45 mark off a feed from Katie McNair to make it 2-0. A few minutes later, Midland converted on a power play as Darbi Poole scored off assists from Huberdeau and Brooke Barylski.

Another power-play opportunity followed shortly after, and Midland capitalized again as Kuffler scored at 13:02. Assisting on the man-advantage goal were Jaden Greenlee and Barylski. The Warriors took a comfortable 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Midland wasted little time in the third, scoring on the power play once more. Poole netted her second goal of the game, assisted by McNair and Meghan Stewart, to extend the lead to 5-0.

Later in the period, Grace Page joined the scoring with an even-strength goal at 15:21, assisted by Huberdeau, who recorded her third point of the weekend. The final tally came on the power play at 18:09 as Kuffler netted her second goal of the game off feeds from Greenlee and Maguire.

Stewart earned the win in net for Midland, stopping nine shots as the Warriors again dominated the shots-on-goal column, 64-9.

For the series, Maguire led the way with four points (two goals, two assists), while Kuffler (2 G, 1 A), Campbell (1 G, 2 A), and Huberdeau (3 A) each finished with three points.

Midland (13-0) will have a well-deserved weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 23. The Warriors will travel to face McKendree (5-1) on Thursday and Friday, then take on Maryville (3-1) on Saturday and Sunday.
