No. 4 Warriors Split Series to Open Long Road Trip

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 4 Midland University earned a series split on the road this week against No. 14 Arizona State University at the Mountain America Community Iceplex. The Warriors dropped the opener, 2-1, on Thursday but rebounded with a 2-1 victory on Friday.

THURSDAY: Arizona State 2, Midland 1

Arizona State capitalized on its power-play opportunities, converting twice on six chances. The Sun Devils opened the scoring with a first-period goal to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Midland tied the game in the second period with an unassisted goal from Sky Thompson. However, ASU regained the lead with a late-period goal before holding off the Warriors in the final frame.

Meghan Stewart made 22 saves for Midland in the loss, while the Sun Devils' goaltender tallied 49 saves.

FRIDAY: Midland 2, Arizona State 1

The Warriors flipped the script in Friday's matchup. Grace Page scored a power-play goal late in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 after Arizona State opened the scoring earlier in the period. Molly McMurrich netted the game-winner at 15:47 of the third period off an assist from Callie Maguire.

Natalie Rampton stopped 27 shots for Midland in the victory. Arizona State's goaltender recorded another strong outing with 48 saves in the loss.

Midland (18-6) will return to action with a weekend series at Grand Canyon (7-10-1) on Saturday and Sunday.
