No. 4 Warriors End Semester with Road Sweep of No. 14 Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – No. 4-ranked Midland University hit the road one more time before the end of the semester, traveling to take on No. 17-ranked University of Jamestown this weekend. The Warriors showcased their dominance with a sweep of Jimmies inside Wilson Arena, claimed a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory on Friday, and followed it up with a commanding 4-0 shutout on Saturday.
FRIDAY: Midland 3, Jamestown 2 (OT)
After falling behind 2-0 in the second period, the Warriors showed their resilience with two goals in the third period. Callie Maguire netted the first score off an assist from Makenna Larsen on the powerplay at the 7:36 mark. Then, Darbi Poole tied the game four minutes later off assists from Grace Page and Taylor Bell.
In the extra period, Maguire emerged as the hero, netting her second goal of the game at 4:14. Meghan Stewart recorded 21 saves, keeping the Warriors in the contest despite being outshot in the first two periods, 15 to 13. Midland's offense had 20 shots in the third to tip the shot totals in its favor, 39 to 23, for the game.
SATURDAY: Midland 4, Jamestown 0
In the final game of the weekend, Midland's defense was up to the challenge from the start. The Warriors limited the Jimmies to just three shots in the opening period while putting 21 themselves. In the first, Grace Page got things going offensively with a goal in the opening minutes off a feed from Jaicee Huberdeau. Later in the period, Huberdeau found Callie Maguire for a goal and Midland took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Darbi Poole lit the lamp twice in the second frame, scoring an unassisted goal at the 13:03 mark and then pushing home the final score at the 17:07 mark. Huberdeau picked up her third assist on the game along with Maguire.
Natalie Rampton was perfect between the pipes, stopping all 19 shots she faced for her fourth shutout of the season. Midland outshot Jamestown 40-19, with contributions across the lineup. The Warriors also neutralized Jamestown's power-play opportunities, going 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
With the pair of victories, Midland ends the semester with a 15-5-0 record. The Warriors will return to action after the holiday break when they host No. 6 Minot State. The teams will match up on January 17-18 inside Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Nebraska.
