No. 12 Minot State Sweeps No. 4 Warriors in Weekend Series
MINOT, N.D. – No. 4-ranked Midland University dropped both games in a weekend Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) series against No. 12 Minot State, with the Beavers prevailing 4-1 on Saturday and 3-0 on Sunday at the Maysa Arena.
SATURDAY: Minot State 4, Midland 1
The Beavers opened the scoring late in the first period with a goal at 17:30, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Midland answered in the second period when Keagan Shearer found the net at 13:48, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity with assists from Callie Maguire and Makara Magbanua. Minot State regained the lead before the end of the second, scoring with 3:18 left for a 2-1 advantage. In the third, the Beavers extended their lead early and sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minutes. Shots were nearly even, with Midland firing 30 to Minot State's 27. Warriors' goaltender Meghan Stewart recorded 23 saves in the loss.
SUNDAY: Minot State 3, Midland 0
The series finale was a defensive battle through the first half, with neither team finding the net until Minot State broke the deadlock at 10:37 in the second period. The Beavers added another goal just two minutes later to lead 2-0 going into the final intermission. Trailing by two, Midland applied pressure with 20 shots in the third period, but Minot State's goaltender was impenetrable, preserving the shutout. The Beavers added a power-play goal late to cap the sweep.
Midland (7-3, 6-2 WMCH) will have two weeks to prepare for its next set of games on November 7-9. The Warriors will travel to St. Louis, Missouri for the WMCH Showcase where they'll face Liberty (1-1, 0-0 WMCH), McKendree (12-2, 5-1 WMCH), and Maryville (9-2, 1-1 WMCH) on consecutive days. The weekend will also feature the WMCH All-Star game on Sunday, November 10.
