Warriors Pick Up Hard-Fought Sweep at Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Midland University was on the road for the first time this season as it traveled to face the University of Jamestown on Friday and Saturday for a pair of conference games. The Warriors completed a weekend sweep over the Jimmies, earning a hard-fought 3-2 overtime victory on Friday before securing a 3-0 shutout on Saturday in Women's Midwest College Hockey (WMCH) play.
FRIDAY: Midland 3, Jamestown 2 (OT)
After a scoreless first period, Molly McMurich put the Warriors on the board at the 2:32 mark of the second, assisted by Brook Barylski. The Jimmies quickly responded with a goal two minutes later to level the score. Jamestown took the lead midway through the third with a goal at 12:10, but Midland equalized three minutes later when Darbi Poole scored off a feed from Makara Magbanua. With the game tied after regulation, it took just 20 seconds into overtime for Callie Maguire to net the game-winner, assisted by Katie McNair and Taylor Bell. Meghan Stewart earned the win in goal for the Warriors, making 21 saves, while the Jimmies' goaltender stopped 38 shots in the loss.
SATURDAY: Midland 3, Jamestown 0
The Warriors opened the scoring on a power play in the first period when Brooke Barylski found the back of the net off assists from Callie Maguire and Makenna Larson. In the second period, Molly McMurrich added to the lead with an insurance goal, set up by Taylor Bell and Larson. Midland capitalized on another power play midway through the third as Larson scored, assisted by Darbi Poole and Maguire. Natalie Rampton earned the shutout with 26 saves, as the Warriors outshot the Jimmies 42-26.
Midland (6-0, 6-0 WMCH) will take a break next weekend before hosting Indiana Tech (0-1-1) for a non-conference series on October 18-19. The games, which are part of Homecoming Weekend for the Warriors, are set for 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska.
