Warriors Pick Up Pair of Conference Wins Over Minot State

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted rival Minot State University inside the Sidner Ice Arena for a Friday-Saturday series over the weekend. The Warriors earned the sweep over the Beavers with shutout victories, 2-0 and 3-0, to remain unbeaten through four games this season. All four games so far have been Women's Midwest Collegiate Hockey (WMCH) contests.

FRIDAY: Midland 2, Minot State 0

Jaicee Huberdeau put the Warriors on the board at 11:28 in the first period, redirecting a deflection shot to find the back of the net. This early goal set the tone for the remainder of the period, as Midland dominated the Beaver's defense, outshooting them 16-4.

In the second period, Huberdeau struck again with a shorthanded goal at 16:01, weaving through defenders to extend Midland's lead to 2-0. The Warriors continued to apply pressure, outshooting the Beavers 12-5.

The third period saw Minot ramping up their offensive efforts, outshooting Midland 8-6. However, the Warriors' defense held firm, securing a shutout victory.

Midland dominated offensively, outshooting Minot St. 34-17, Meghan Stewart stopped all 17 shots she faced, securing the shutout win.

SATURDAY: Midland 3, Minot State 0

Both teams struggled to find their footing in the first period as they battled for control and neither were able to find the back of the net. Midland took the slight lead in shot attempts 9-5.

Midland quickly opened up the second period offensively as Darbi Poole netted the first goal of the game from Rylie Martin at the 2:25 mark. The goals sparked momentum for the Warriors as they quickly followed with another goal by Callie Maguire as she found the net at the 6:14 mark assisted by Taylor Bell, putting Midland firmly in control.

As the third period unfolded, Midland continued to press the advantage. At 11:44, Callie McGuire scored her second goal of the night, with assists from Taylor Bell and Grace Page, sealing the 3-0 victory for Midland.

Megan Stewart stopped all 26 shots she faced to secure her second shutout victory of the weekend.

Midland (4-0, 4-0 WMCH) will travel up to North Dakota to take on Jamestown (0-0, 0-0 WMCH) for a weekend series on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop is slated for 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 and at 12:00 p.m. on Oct. 5 inside Wilson Arena in Jamestown, N.D.
