Warriors Open Road Trip with Shutout of Lindenwood
MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Midland University began its four-game road trip on Thursday night with a late-night matchup against Lindenwood University at the Centene Community Ice Center. The Warriors dominated the Lions, winning 3-0 in a game that started just past 9:00 p.m. locally.
After a scoreless opening period that saw Midland outshoot its opponents 19-5, they found the back of the net three times in the second. Jenna Grosdidier scored just under six minutes in off assists from Rylee Martin and Tanna Christensen. The Warriors continued to put up shots on the Lions' netminder but were held in check until the final minute of the period.
In the last minute before the final intermission, Midland scored twice. First, it was Darbi Poole finding the back of the net off a pass from Martin at the 19:23 mark. With 11 seconds on the game clock, Kayla Flanigan scored off a feed from Taylor Bell and Callie Maguire as the Warriors went into the break with a 3-0 lead.
In the final period, the Midland offense was held in check despite a pair of powerplay chances. They were limited to just 15 shots on net while allowing 5 shots to reach Meghan Stewart who would pick up the shutout win. For the game, the Warriors held a 61 to 12 shot advantage in the 3-0 victory.
Midland (9-0) will continue its road trip with back-to-back games at Maryville on Friday and Saturday before facing Lindenwood once more on Sunday. Game times are set for 8:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. against the Saints in Chesterfield, Missouri.
