Warriors Open Up Weekend with Thursday Night Win Over Jamestown

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University took the ice for a late-night contest against the University of Jamestown on Thursday inside Sidner Ice Arena. The Warriors were able to net a goal each period along with an empty-net score in the final minute to down the Jimmies, 4-1. The victory improves MU to 3-0 on the season while Jamestown falls to 0-1.

Kamryn Hayhurst opened up the scoring column with a goal at the 13:17 mark of the opening period. Karenna Grothmann found her fellow super-senior for the score as the Warriors took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, Callie Maguire scored her third goal of the season off a feed from Kayla Flanigan and Taylor Bell at the 15:18 mark.

Less than a minute later, Jamestown responded with its first and only goal of the contest as they found the back of the net while on the powerplay.

With the score 2-1 heading into the final break in action, Midland came out of the locker room looking to put some distance between them and Jamestown. Just over five minutes in, Brynn Tosh scored on a shot from Maxine Mass. Then, as time was winding down in the game, Rylee Martin completed the empty-net goal while Darbi Poole and Flanigan assisted on the final score.

Despite looking sluggish at times, Midland outshot Jamestown 44 to 13 on the night. Hannah Stone picked up the win in net, her third of the season and 41st as a Warrior.

Midland (3-0) will have a day of preparation before hitting the ice twice more this weekend. They'll host Grand Canyon (0-0) on Saturday and Sunday. Puck drop is slated for 4:00 p.m. on October 7 and at 12:00 p.m. on October 8 in Fremont.
