No. 16 Warriors Drop Semifinal to No. 5 Jamestown
BLOOMFIELD, Ill. – Looking to advance to the conference title game for the first time in program history, No. 16 Midland University ran into a formidable foe in No. 5 University of Jamestown. The Warriors, making their fifth appearance in the semifinal round, put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell to the Jimmies, 3-0.
Jamestown struck quickly, scoring just 51 seconds into the game. A loose puck in front of the net was pushed to the backside for the opening goal. The Jimmies added a second tally in the period, capitalizing on a fortunate bounce. A shot from the point sailed past the goal but rebounded perfectly to a waiting player, who buried a one-timer at the 8:27 mark. Despite the two-goal deficit, Midland had a strong opening period, outshooting Jamestown 10-9.
In the second period, both teams had to navigate a pair of penalties, but their special teams stood firm, resulting in a scoreless frame.
The Warriors continued to battle in the third, but Jamestown's goaltender remained solid, turning away every shot that reached his pads. Midland's defense held strong as well, with Liam Tereposky stopping a dozen shots in the period. However, the Jimmies managed to tack on one final goal at the midway point. Tereposky finished with 30 saves on 33 shots. Jamestown outshot Midland 33-25 on the night.
Midland (18-18-1) now awaits its fate for the ACHA Men's Division I Tournament. With a strong ranking and strength of schedule, the Warriors have a compelling case for an at-large bid. The 24-team field will be announced Monday night by the ACHA.
