No. 6 Jamestown Edges No. 22 Warriors in Tightly Contested Series

FREMONT, Neb. – No. 22-ranked Midland hosted No. 6-ranked Jamestown University this weekend at the Sidner Ice Arena. The Warriors fell to the Jimmies in a two-game series, with Jamestown claiming a 5-4 win on Friday and securing a 5-3 victory on Saturday in a tightly contested matchup.

FRIDAY: Jamestown 5, Midland 4

Jamestown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, scoring at the 5:01 and 18:48 marks. The Warriors gained momentum in the second period when Thomas Babb found the back of the net at 1:51, assisted by Jared Wisely, putting Midland on the board. Hugo Lukacovic capitalized on a power play with a goal at 10:55, tying the game at 2-2. However, Jamestown responded with a power-play goal at 14:33, regaining the lead at 3-2 by the end of the second period.

Early in the third period, Matthew McCaw battled hard for the Warriors, scoring at 4:24 with assists from Zak Justice and Zachary Weber, evening the score at 3-3. Just a few minutes later, Mathew Kochanowski netted an unassisted goal at 7:00, giving the Warriors their first lead of the game, 4-3.

The back-and-forth action continued as Jamestown capitalized on another power play, tying the game once again at 11:24. The Jimmies showed resilience, scoring the go-ahead goal at 16:24 to take a 5-4 lead. Despite Midland's efforts to equalize, Jamestown held strong, securing the victory.

SATURDAY: Jamestown 5, Midland 3

The game began with both teams fiercely competing, as Jamestown struck first, scoring at 14:06. Minutes later, Francesco Cecchetto answered for the Warriors, netting a goal at 18:41 with an assist from Luke Guarienti, tying the game 1-1 by the end of the first period.

The Warriors carried that energy into the second period, quickly taking the lead with a goal by Karl Grafelman just 58 seconds in, assisted by Mathew Kochanowski. Shortly after, Kochanowski found the back of the net himself, thanks to assists from Thomas Babb and Lasse Richert, extending Midland's lead to 3-1. Jamestown, however, closed the gap with a power-play goal at 9:07, leaving the Warriors with a narrow 3-2 advantage as the second period concluded.

Jamestown regained momentum in the third period, tying the game 3-3 with a goal at 5:08. As the clock wound down, the intensity escalated. At 18:16, Jamestown took advantage of a power play, slipping the puck past to take a 4-3 lead. In a final attempt, Midland pulled their goalie to gain an advantage, but Jamestown capitalized, scoring an empty-net goal at 19:04 to secure a 5-3 victory over the Warriors.

Midland (13-15-1) will look to bounce back when they host Waldorf (4-16) in a weekend series on January 24-25. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday nights in Fremont, Nebraska.
