Warriors Pick Up Pair of Wins on Three-Game Road Trip
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Midland University wrapped up a successful weekend, going 2-1 on a road trip through the St. Louis area on Saturday night. After dropping a nonconference game to Maryville University on Thursday by a score of 3-0, the Warriors bounced back with a two-game sweep over McKendree University on Friday and Saturday, winning 5-1 and 3-1.
THURSDAY: Maryville 3, Midland 0
In Thursday's contest, the Warriors were shut out by the Saints, 3-0, in Chesterfield, Missouri. After a scoreless first period, Maryville broke through in the second, scoring three goals at the 1:13, 8:26, and 16:28 marks. The Saints dominated the shot count, outshooting Midland 45-22.
FRIDAY: Midland 5, McKendree 1
Friday night saw Midland bounce back with a commanding 5-1 victory over McKendree in Lebanon, Illinois. The Warriors held a 2-1 lead after two periods, with Zach Weber and Milan Breczko each scoring in the first period. McKendree cut the deficit with a second-period goal, but Midland responded in the third, finding the net three times in just over 30 seconds. Ethan Brown, Karl Grafelman, and Breczko all scored within 36 seconds to seal the win. Elijah Marchese stopped 24 shots to earn the victory, while the Warriors outshot the Bearcats 52-24.
SATURDAY: Midland 3, McKendree 1
In the series finale on Saturday, Midland completed the sweep with a 3-1 win. Tommy Babb opened the scoring on a power play in the first period, and Hugo Lukacovic added to the lead in the second. Leo Milan netted another power-play goal in the third, making it 3-0 before McKendree scored late to avoid the shutout. Liam Tereposky earned the win, making 27 saves as the Warriors outshot the Bearcats 40-28.
Midland (3-4, 2-2 MCH) will look to build upon its momentum next weekend. The Warriors will play a two-game series in Fremont against Drury (XX) on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop for the home opening weekend games is set for 7:30 p.m. both nights at Sidner Ice Arena.
