Warriors Drop Series to No. 7 Jamestown

FREMONT, Neb. – Over the weekend, Midland University hosted the No. 7-ranked University of Jamestown in a Midwest College Hockey (MCH) showdown inside Sidner Ice Arena. The Warriors, who were coming off a draw in their last on-ice meeting with the Jimmies, were unable to match the conference leaders. Jamestown earned a pair of shutouts, winning 5-0 on Friday night and 3-0 on Saturday night.

FRIDAY: Jamestown 5, Midland 0

The opening game of the series saw a clean 40 minutes of hockey with neither side being whistled for an infraction through the first two periods. While the clock didn't stop for penalties, it did stop twice in the opening frame as Jamestown found the back of the at midway point and then again with just over a minute before intermission.

Fans watching the game in person and online saw a quick second period as the clock was nearly unstoppable, much like the goalies that didn't yield a goal in a combined 26 shots on net.

In the third, the streak of no penalties wore off as the Jimmies were whistled for three minors, and the Warriors were issued five minors. Before the first penalty though, Jamestown netted back-to-back goals in the first four minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead. They would tack on one final goal, via a powerplay chance, at the 12:40 mark.

Liam Tereposky was solid in net, allowing five goals on 48 shots. His counterpart stopped all 22 of the Warriors' attempts on net.

SATURDAY: Jamestown 3, Midland 0

In the series finale, the teams battled all night on the ice. Playing inspired hockey, the Warriors yielded just one goal through the majority of the game. The Jimmies were able to slide the puck past the last line of defense in the sixth minute of the first period. That's where things stood until late.

Try as they might, Midland was unable to find the equalizer. The Warriors put up 32 shots through the first two periods but were held off the scoreboard by the Jimmies' netminder.

Still looking for the tying goal, Midland lifted its goalie in the final two minutes. Jamestown was able to get a turnover and hit the empty net twice down the stretch, winning 3-0.

Liam Tereposky went the distance in net for the second-straight night. He picked up 42 saves, giving Midland a chance up until the very end.

Next up, Midland (9-19-1) will host Waldorf (3-26-0) in the final home games of the season. The teams, who both go by the Warriors moniker will take the ice in Fremont on Friday and Saturday, February 9 and 10. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. each night with Senior Night before the weekend opener.
