Warriors Drop Final Game of Road Trip at Maryville

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – In the third and final game of its season-opening road trip, Midland University took on Maryville University on Sunday afternoon. The Warriors, who were coming off a pair of games with McKendree on Friday and Saturday, battled the Saints tough but ultimately fell 2-1.

Maryville took advantage of a first-period powerplay chance. Following a tripping penalty, the Saints netted the opening goal at the 8:45 mark of the first period and held that advantage into the first intermission.

Following the break in action, Midland evened the score as Milan Breczko netted the Warriors' first goal at the 4:32 mark of the second. Assisting on the equalizer were Jared Wisely and Zach Eddington. The score remained knotted at 1-1 at the second intermission.

In the final period of play, the Saints were able to utilize their man advantage once more. After a minor for too many men penalty was issued to Midland, Maryville found the back of the net with its second powerplay goal at the 10:43 mark. That would prove to be the deciding goal as the Saints defense stopped every chance by the Warriors over the final nine minutes.

The loss sets Midland's record back to 1-2 on the season while Maryville improves to 4-1.

Liam Tereposky played 58 minutes in net, collecting 27 saves in the loss. The Saints outshot the Warriors 29-16 in the contest.

"You could definitely see that we were on our third game of the weekend and they [Maryville] were playing their first," commented head coach Jan Dam. "Our guys brought great energy this weekend and on Saturday we were able to get the shutout. When we stuck to our game plan and we kept the game simple, letting things come to us, we were at our best. This team has shown great buy-in during the preseason and I'm looking forward to what we can accomplish as a team this season."

Up next for Midland (1-2) will be a pair of home contests as they host Northern Illinois (0-0). The Warriors and Huskies will take the ice on October 6 and 7 at Sidner Ice Arena. Friday's home opener is set for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop with Saturday's game also slated for 7:30 p.m. in Fremont, Nebraska.
